07 Knowledge valorisation

The EU’s knowledge valorisation policy framework aims to unlock the economic and societal value of publicly funded research and addresses the question of how universities, RTOs, start-ups and SMEs can turn research results into real impact while also managing strategic risks, IP management and technology transfer. This half‑day workshop, organised by the INSPIRING ERA project, will convene a diverse group of stakeholders from across Europe, including policymakers, funding bodies, research organisations, intermediaries, SMEs and start‑ups, to examine how intellectual assets and IP can be managed, valorised and internationally shared in ways that are secure, impactful and aligned with EU values.

Through presentations and INSPIRING ERA Exchanges, participants will examine how to design knowledge valorisation, manage intellectual assets, and develop knowledge valorisation tools that are compatible with research security and international cooperation. The event will emphasise practical cases around academic start‑ups and spin‑offs, proof‑of‑market and IP valorisation tools, helping bridge EU‑funded R&I results with responsible market uptake.

Why Attend?

This INSPIRING ERA Workshop will:

  • Explore how EU knowledge valorisation policies into practical workflows, templates and decision‑support tools for universities, RTOs and companies.
  • Facilitate cross‑sector dialogue among policymakers, practitioners, TTOs, IP and compliance officers, and innovation intermediaries on how to turn research into practice and apply knowledge in the EU and beyond.
  • Highlight practical cases related to academic start‑ups and spin‑offs, proof‑of‑market approaches and impact‑oriented IP management that bridge research results to responsible market uptake.
  • Enable co‑creation of targeted recommendations for aligning knowledge valorisation, research security and strategic autonomy at EU and national levels.
