Knowledge valorisation continues to gain momentum across Europe, strengthening the link between research excellence and societal and economic impact. From new Horizon Europe calls to fresh policy guidance, national platforms and high-level events, here is a snapshot of what’s happening in the European knowledge valorisation landscape.
Codes of Practice for Knowledge Valorisation: Survey Results
The European Commission Directorate-General for Research and Innovation recently published the results of a survey on the Codes of Practice for Knowledge Valorisation.
Key findings from the 336 respondents across 25 EU Member States and 19 non-EU countries include:
- More than 75% consider the Codes helpful
- 61% have used or plan to use them
- 56% were previously unaware of the Codes
- 72% are interested in further engagement
The survey results show strong support for the Codes while underlining the need for greater awareness. A second phase will now collect real-life use cases, which will be shared through the Knowledge Valorisation Platform and future Knowledge Valorisation Talks. Read more.
New Calls advance Knowledge Valorisation in Horizon Europe 2026–2027
The European Commission has adopted the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2026–2027, which includes several topics explicitly addressing knowledge valorisation. The programme reinforces the EU’s commitment to ensuring that research results translate into tangible benefits for society and the economy.
Dedicated calls focus on strengthening valorisation capacities, improving knowledge uptake, and supporting innovation ecosystems across Europe. Read more.
Slovenia launches a national platform for knowledge transfer
Slovenia has launched a new national platform dedicated to knowledge transfer and knowledge valorisation: www.prenosznanja.si/en.
The platform serves as a single-entry point to the Knowledge Transfer Slovenia (KTS) community, connecting knowledge transfer offices from thirteen research organisations.
It offers:
- Access to key contacts in the Slovenian innovation ecosystem
- Showcases of innovation offers and research expertise
- Collaboration and matchmaking opportunities
- Practical tools such as model agreements and IP guidance
- Good practices and success stories
Knowledge Valorisation Platform: repository of best practices
Across Europe, numerous strategies and tools have been developed to turn research results into real-world value. The Knowledge Valorisation Platform hosts a Repository of Best Practices, where stakeholders share concrete examples, policies and “learning from experience” cases.
The repository is open and dynamic – organisations are encouraged to submit their own practices. It is an important resource for institutions looking to strengthen their own valorisation approaches and learn from peers across Europe.
Study on increasing the valorisation of multidisciplinary research
Multidisciplinary research, including Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH), plays a crucial role in addressing complex societal challenges. Yet its results often face barriers in reaching uptake and impact. Under the new ERA Policy Agenda 2025–2027, an action on “Upscaling knowledge valorisation capacities and activities” aims to improve the uptake of multidisciplinary research results.
A study launched in September 2025 will:
- Identify good valorisation practices
- Provide practical guidance for research projects
- Support better value creation from multidisciplinary results
- Inform future policy guidance
Results are expected by summer 2026. A dedicated community will be created in spring 2026 to continue the discussion and engagement. Read more.
IP4OS Publishes Synergy Framework for Knowledge Valorisation
The IP4OS project has released the Synergy Framework for Knowledge Valorisation, a practical handbook showing how Open Science and Intellectual Property management can work together to support the exploitation of publicly funded research.
Challenging the idea that openness and protection are in conflict, the framework promotes an approach based on the principle “as open as possible, as closed as necessary.” It provides recommendations for researchers, institutions and policymakers to better align policies, build capacity and support more effective knowledge valorisation across Europe.
In 2026, IP4OS will build on this work through Europe-wide capacity-building activities and Open Innovation Challenges exploring the IP-OS-AI interplay. Read more.
INSPIRING ERA Online Event on Knowledge Valorisation – 11 March 2026
INSPIRING ERA, in collaboration with UAS4EUROPE, is organising a European online event on Turning knowledge into value: European tools and valorisation practices on Wednesday 11 March 2026 at 10:00–12:00 CET.
This online event examines how research can be translated into real-world impact, drawing on concrete examples and success stories from across Europe. It presents different pathways to knowledge valorisation and highlights European-level tools and support structures to help researchers and institutions put valorisation into practice.
IMPAC3T-IP Toolbox Launch: Securing Broader Impact
IMPAC3T-IP held its launch event “Towards a broader impact: securing societal and economic benefits from knowledge transfer” on 5- 6 February 2026. Recordings are now available online.
The event featured the launch of the IMPAC3T-IP Toolbox and Academy, and interactive panels on socially responsible licensing, SHAPE initiatives, and co-creation for complex partnerships.
EU Knowledge Valorisation Talk
If you missed the EU Knowledge Valorisation Talk on 17 February 2026, you can now watch the recording of “The Power of Transdisciplinarity for Innovation-Led Impact.”
Organised by the European Commission, the online session explored how transdisciplinary approaches – integrating knowledge across disciplinary boundaries – can drive innovation from fundamental science to market application and societal impact. Read more.
