The European Commission has launched a public consultation to gather input on the forthcoming Gender Equality Strategy for 2026-2030. Citizens, organizations, and stakeholders from across Europe are invited to share their perspectives, experiences, and recommendations to help shape policies aimed at advancing gender equality. The consultation seeks to ensure that the new strategy reflects a broad range of views and addresses the real challenges and priorities affecting people’s lives across the European Union.
About this initiative
Gender equality stands as both a fundamental right and a core value of the European Union. Building on decades of progress, the EU continues its commitment to ensuring that all individuals—regardless of gender—enjoy equal opportunities, rights, and protections.
The roadmap for women’s rights
In March 2025, the EU adopted a comprehensive roadmap for women’s rights. This roadmap establishes a long-term vision aimed at fully achieving women’s rights across Europe, addressing persistent inequalities and barriers that women face in all spheres of life.
The 2026-2030 Gender Equality Strategy
To transform this vision into concrete action, the European Commission is preparing a new Gender Equality Strategy for 2026-2030. This strategy will detail specific measures and initiatives to be implemented over the next five years, targeting key areas where progress is most needed.
Key focus areas
- Consumers: Promoting equal access to goods, services, and opportunities for all genders.
- Employment and Social Affairs: Closing gender gaps in employment, pay, and leadership positions, and ensuring work-life balance.
- Justice and Fundamental Rights: Strengthening legal protections and combating gender-based violence and discrimination.
Type of act: communication
The strategy will be introduced as a Communication from the European Commission, outlining policy priorities and actions for Member States and stakeholders.
